Clemson World alumni magazine now available on iPad

CLEMSON, SC – August 8, 2011 – As communication delivery methods change — think Morse code, Pony Express, fax machines — so change the practices of the communicators.

Clemson University’s alumni magazine, Clemson World Magazine, which serves nearly 80,000 alumni, now is available for download to the Apple iPad.

Clemson World Magazine first was available in the 1970s as a print publication, then found its way to the Web before branching into this latest interactive form.

“We wanted to create a new engaging experience for Clemson World readers, said Dave Dryden, director of creative services at Clemson. Expanding the magazine into the digital publishing realm allows us to tell stories in a richer, more immersive way. We’re excited about serving our alumni and other important supporters in this new and exciting way.”

The inaugural edition has three feature stories: one about the Deep Orange concept car, which was created by Clemson students at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research; another about the digital production arts program, whose students helped develop the animated cover of the debut edition; and a feature story about improvements and upgrades to university athletic facilities.

Clemson World editor Liz Newall said the initial plan is to have a new iPad issue in the winter and summer. In recent years, Clemson World scaled back to three print issues a year to save costs. The creation of an iPad app gives the magazine editors and writers an opportunity to share more stories more often.

To download the application, go to iTunes and search the iTunes Store for Clemson World. Once you download the free app to the iPad, no other download is required. Tablet owners will be prompted to run an update whenever new issues are available.

Analytics are built in to measure downloads and page views.

Clemson partnered with Adobe Systems Inc. to make the alumni magazine available through a free downloadable app from the Apple iTunes store.
