Cleveland Park Playground community build is two weeks away

October 6, 2015

SPARTANBURG, SC – We Need Your Help!

In just TWO weeks, there will be a 6-day opportunity for you to help build the new Cleveland Park Playground. The park will be the largest playground that is fully accessible to people with all abilities in the county. This is not an ordinary playground and it’s not an ordinary playground construction project.  The Cleveland Park Playground will be built through a “community build” process; community members and volunteers will come together and build the playground.  From October 20-25th, over 2,650 volunteer time slots will be available. Hopefully, right at this very moment, you are asking yourself how you can get involved!

First, we need you to sign up to volunteer with us! Don’t worry if you think you aren’t skilled to help build a playground.  There is a role for every volunteer and we will need many hands on deck each day to help with a variety of tasks! It will be an awesome experience and a great way to join others in building our community. To sign up as a volunteer, go to www.spartanburgparks.org click on the sign up as a volunteer link, which will take you to a site where you can sign up for specific days and times or you can go to this direct link: https://www.uwpiedmont.org/aam/general/event/?doc_id=2130. Please sign up as soon as possible so we know how many volunteers have committed.

It is important to note that children under 10 will not be allowed on the construction site but we will have childcare available. Children 10-13 can assist but must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times. Children 14-17 can work on the site but cannot operate power tools.

Second, We need additional volunteers for food service/clean-up and to work registration for the community build volunteers.

Third, please share this information with friends and family. Help us disseminate this information to area businesses, colleges, schools, churches, community groups, neighborhoods, etc. in an effort to spread the word.

Thank you in advance for giving your time and energy to this effort. Talk about a community experience! I hope you will find at least one 4-hour shift to be a part of producing an exciting space for the current and future children of Spartanburg County to run, play and have fun!
