Clinton Girls Compete in the State Singles Tournament in Florence

November 10, 2021

At the end of each tennis season, the South Carolina High School League hosts a singles tournament for the top girls across the state. Players qualify for the “invitation only” event based on their season statistics. MC Dailey and Chandler Dailey represented Clinton High School in the SCHSL Singles Tournament on Monday and Tuesday. MC is a junior and plays #1 singles and #1 doubles for the Clinton Red Devils. Chandler is a freshman and plays #2 singles and #1 doubles for the Clinton Red Devils. Hall of Fame Coach Clovis Simmons accompanied the girls to the event and also served as co-director of the tournament.

Both MC and Chandler finished better than expected in the state singles event, held at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Tennis Center in Florence, SC. MC finished 4th in the state overall and 1st in public schools and earned the All State designation and a medal for her achievements. Her match scores were 6-0, 6-1; 6-4, 6-7 (1), 1-0 (8); 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (4); 4-6, 6-7 (8); and 6-8. MC played a total of four tiebreakers in her very competitive matches. Chandler’s scores were 6-0, 6-0; 5-7, 1-6; and 2-8. She played the eventual runner up in her second match and kept it close.

Both girls did a fantastic job! They’re looking forward to having an even better showing next year!
