Clinton High School Boys Tennis Advances with 4-3 Playoff Win Over Belton Honea Path

The Clinton High School boys tennis team secured a 4-3 victory over Belton Honea Path High School, advancing in the SCHSL playoffs.

Matthew King opened singles play with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Blake Maynard at the No. 1 position, followed by Edwin Orr posting an identical 6-0, 6-0 result against Bryce Mitchell at No. 2. Jacob King added another Red Devil win at No. 3, defeating Isaac Walker 6-2, 6-0.

Belton Honea Path answered with wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions. Jake Meyerholtz fell to Jackson Welborn 6-2, 6-2, and Cooper Stinson dropped his match against Levi Clark 6-4, 6-2, setting up a decisive doubles session.

Matthew King and Jacob King clinched the match for Clinton at No. 1 doubles, defeating Maynard and Mitchell 6-0, 6-0 to secure the team’s fourth point and the victory. The No. 2 doubles team of Malakye Brewer and Ethan Wargo fell to Jaden Case and Nathan Cooley 6-2, 6-4, but the outcome had already been decided.

Clinton will return to the court Monday, April 4, for the third round of the SCHSL A/AA/AAA playoffs, facing the winner of the No. 1 seed Christ Church vs. No. 8 Powdersville matchup.
