Clinton High School Cross Country Teams Preparing for Annual Running of the Cans Event June 29

June 14, 2023

The seventh annual running of the cans is scheduled for June 29.

The event started in the summer of 2017 when the cross-country teams decided to combine practice with a community service project called the “Running of the Cans.” Runners and members of the community were asked to bring canned goods and other non-perishables to the CHS Gym during the month of June. On the last Thursday practice in June, each member of the XC team took two cans and ran them to the Open-Door Ministries to help restock the food pantry at Geraldine’s Kitchen. The event was such a great success that they have continued every summer since.

The 2023 Running of the Cans will be on the evening of June 29.

“We appreciate the support from the community in the past. The community is encouraged to continue this support in the form of donations as we try to restock the shelves of Geraldine’s Kitchen, which is part of the mission of the Open Door Ministries,” said Coach Lee Atkinson. “Our kids look forward to this event each summer.”

Hunger does not go on summer vacation. How can you help?

The teams are collecting canned food items for donation. You can bring your canned goods or nonperishable donations to the Clinton High School Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday between 7:00 – 9:00 am. There will be a table set up outside of the main gym.
