Clinton High Wrestlers Gear Up for High School National Championships

In the world of high school wrestling, the Clinton High School wrestling team is making waves as five of its talented athletes prepare to compete in the prestigious High School National Championships at the Virginia Beach Convention Center from April 5-7, 2024. These dedicated young men not only aim to showcase their passion for the sport but also aspire to catch the attention of college coaches, demonstrating their readiness for the next level of competition.
The Competitors: Profiles of Clinton High Wrestling Team
Blake Greenwood
Achievements: Record: 37-4, State Runner-up last year, two-time Region Champion, Blue Devil Invitational Champion, 2nd at All Lakelands Tournament, 2nd at Upper States (qualifying for Individual State Championships).
Joseph Carles
Achievements: Record: 39-5, State Qualifier last year, two-time Region Champion, 2nd at TL Hanna Invitational, 3rd at Blue Devil Invitational, 2nd at All Lakelands Tournament, 7th at the Southern Slam, 1st at Upper States (heading to Individual State Championships).
Ares Jones
Achievements: Record: 39-6, Region Champion, 3rd at Blue Devil Invitational, 2nd at All Lakelands Tournament, 7th at the Southern Slam, 4th at Upper States (heading to Individual State Championships).
Mikevious Byrd
Achievements: Record: 38-9, TL Hanna Invitational Champion and Most Outstanding Wrestler, All Lakelands Tournament Champion, 4th at Blue Devil Invitational, 3rd at Region Tournament, 3rd at Upper States (heading to Individual State Championships).
Malik Abnathey
Achievements: Record: 30-15, 2nd at the Region Tournament, 2nd at the All Lakelands Tournament.

Noteworthy Achievements
Seniors Joseph Carles and Blake Greenwood have been selected for the North/South Wrestling team, representing Clinton High School at the North/South Tournament from Feb. 29 to March 2 at North Myrtle Beach High School.
Furthermore, Carles, Greenwood, and senior Ares Jones have been honored as All-Region wrestlers. Blake Greenwood, in particular, has been named the All-Region wrestler of the Year.
