Clinton Police Issue Public Safety Alert, Urge Residents to Join the 9 P.M. Routine

May 28, 2025

In light of a recent rise in vehicle break-ins, the Clinton Police Department is encouraging residents to take part in the 9 P.M. Routine—a simple, nightly habit proven to help prevent theft and keep neighborhoods safer.

The department’s message is clear: small steps can make a big difference.

🔒 What is the 9 P.M. Routine?
Originally launched by law enforcement agencies across the country, the 9 P.M. Routine is a reminder for residents to secure their property each evening at 9:00 P.M. by:

  • ✅ Locking vehicles, homes, garages, windows, gates, and sheds

  • ✅ Turning on exterior lights and activating alarm systems or cameras

  • ✅ Removing valuables such as wallets, electronics, and keys from cars, porches, and yards

🛡️ Why It Matters:
“Criminals look for easy targets—unlocked doors, dark areas, and visible valuables,” said Clinton Police Chief Michael Addison. “The 9 P.M. Routine is a small effort that can prevent big problems and sends a strong message that we’re watching out for one another.”

💬 See Something? Say Something — Anonymously
The Clinton Police Department also urges residents to report any suspicious activity through the Laurens County Crime Stoppers tip line by calling 68-CRIME. All tips are anonymous and routed to the appropriate law enforcement agency in the county. If a tip leads to an arrest, the person who provided the information is eligible for a cash reward.

“Your call can make a real impact,” said Chief Addison. “Even if you don’t want to speak to police directly, you can help us solve crimes and keep our city safe.”
