Clinton schools go head to head for a food truck lunch at back-to-school event

Clinton teachers have a reason to show up in force Aug. 13, and a free lunch is on the line.
The City of Clinton will host its back-to-school event Thursday, Aug. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at 122 E. Main St. in downtown Clinton, and the highlight of the night is a head-to-head contest among area schools. The school that turns out the most teachers and staff members will win a food truck lunch of its choice one Friday this semester, sponsored by local businesses.
Every faculty member counts. Teachers, aides, front office staff, custodians, bus drivers, cafeteria workers and coaches all add to a school’s total, so schools that rally their whole building have the advantage. Educators are asked to bring their teacher ID and plenty of school spirit.
The winning school will be announced at the end of the event, which gives every campus until 8 p.m. to close the gap. Along with the food truck lunch, the winners take home bragging rights until the next round of report cards.
City officials said they wanted to do something special for teachers this year after another summer of preparation and another set of classrooms to set up. The contest is their way of turning that appreciation into a friendly rivalry.
The city is also collecting school supplies for students. Donations may be dropped off ahead of time at the M.S. Bailey Municipal Center, 211 N. Broad St., during regular business hours, or brought to the event.
Charlie Michaels will provide live music, and Boun’s Fire and Rice Hibachi Food Trailer will be on site, with additional vendors expected.
