Clinton to Enforce Conduct Ordinance at Upcoming Graduation Ceremony
May 20, 2026The City of Clinton will enforce an existing ordinance addressing conduct at public ceremonies and city-sponsored events, with officials reminding the public ahead of graduation season that violations will carry a $500 citation.
Under the ordinance, any individual removed from a public ceremony for excessive noise, disruptive conduct, or inappropriate behavior will receive the fine. The measure is intended to ensure that all attendees, participants, and families can safely and respectfully enjoy community events without disruption.
Clinton High School officials are urging guests to be mindful that graduation is a special moment for every graduate and their family. When attendees cheer loudly or call out for one student, it can make it difficult to hear the names being called for those who follow. Cheering and celebration are welcome, but guests are asked to hold applause until the final graduate’s name has been read so that no family misses their moment.
“We do not want excessive noise or celebration to take away from any individual who has worked hard for this special day,” Clinton High School Guidance posted on its official Facebook page.
The City of Clinton Police Department will be responsible for enforcement of the ordinance at applicable events.
