CMCC’S Swanson named a VenuesNow All-Star

October 6, 2022

Cheryl Swanson, Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center (CMCC) vice president and general manager, has been named a 2022 VenuesNow All-Star, the publication announced this week.

Swanson, who has led the CMCC team since 2017, is a part of an elite class of honorees this year who the publication describes as “gifted luminaries who can seemingly do the impossible.”

The group represents the best-in-class in sports, live entertainment and venues and was selected by the VenuesNow editorial staff.

“Experience Columbia SC is grateful for Cheryl’s leadership and direction over the past five years, especially during one of history’s most challenging times for the hospitality industry during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Bill Ellen, ECSC president and CEO. “Under her direction, the CMCC was one of the first convention centers to safely reopen with protocols in place. Cheryl is an excellent leader, mentor, colleague and industry champion.”

Swanson oversees sales, events, operations, engineering and security at the convention center. Additionally, she develops strategic plans to direct its growth and remain competitive in the market. She has more than three decades of experience in the field. She also shares her expertise as a longtime instructor at IAVM’s Venue Management School and an adjunct faculty member in the Sports Management Program at the University of South Carolina.

“Like all my colleagues in the event industry, I enjoy presenting events that enrich our community by enhancing the quality of life,” Swanson said. “The recognition by VenuesNow is humbling and greatly appreciated.”
