College of Charleston and Naval Information Warfare Center enter partnership

The Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic (NIWC) and the College of Charleston School of Sciences and Mathematics have announced a new educational partnership agreement.
Under the agreement the two groups will share labs and equipment, partner on research, and bolster collaboration in areas such as data science, research and training projects, and other critical areas. Sebastian van Delden, interim dean of the School of Sciences and Mathematics, praised CofC geology and environmental geosciences professors Cass Runyon and Tim Callahan as well as Tara Scozzaro, program manager for the SC Space Grant Consortium, for their work to establish this partnership.
“In the School of Sciences and Mathematics, we strive towards excellence in experiential learning, which goes beyond the traditional classroom or laboratory environment to prepare our students for the workforce or graduate school,” says van Delden. “With undergraduate research and internships being our two top experiential learning activities, this partnership with NIWC is significant because it facilitates such opportunities for our students as well as fosters industry collaborations for our faculty.”
Along with providing College of Charleston students access to NIWC Atlantic personnel, resources, facilities and technology, the agreement also provides mentorship opportunities.
As a part of Naval Information Warfare Systems Command, NIWC Atlantic in Charleston provides systems engineering and acquisition to deliver information warfare capabilities to the naval, joint and national warfighter through the acquisition, development, integration, production, test, deployment, and sustainment of interoperable command, control, communications, computer, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, cyber and information technology capabilities.
