College of Charleston named top school by ‘Fiske Guide’

July 28, 2020

The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2021 has named the College of Charleston “the finest public liberal arts and sciences institution in South Carolina.”

The noted guidebook compiled by Edward Fiske, former New York Times education editor, includes over 300 colleges and universities out of the more than 2,200 four-year institutions of higher education in the United States.

According to the Fiske Guide, “CofC’s original commitment to the liberal arts and sciences and to the citizens of the region has helped it become a well-respected institution throughout the Southeast. Students at the College of Charleston know they are getting a solid education based on creative expression, intellectual freedom and hands-on learning experiences.”

The publication quotes a student who notes, “Here, you will find faculty and staff who care for your success and great friends who come from all different backgrounds.”

The Fiske Guide listing is based on a broad range of criteria, including student body, academics, social life, financial aid, campus setting, housing, food and extracurricular activities.

This is the 16th year in a row that the College has been included in the Fiske Guide.
