College of Charleston professors, students practice healthy disagreement

The College of Charleston’s Civility Initiative is hosting its second Disagree With a Professor (DWP) event, providing students the chance to practice healthy disagreement and dialogue with professors in a constructive, facilitated manner.

DWP takes place Tuesday, April 14 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Beatty 216, at the College’s School of Business.

Professors come to the event with three statements or “hot takes” they wish to discuss. Topics can be related to their academic disciplines or may be random. Students choose which professors to engage with in respectful debate to foster better understanding. 

To ward off any ‘hangry’ arguments, free snacks will be provided. 

Media are welcome to observe healthy dialogue and share tips and tricks for civil debate with their audiences.
