College of Charleston School of Business launches Executive Certification for Family Businesses

July 23, 2019

The College of Charleston School of Business, in partnership with the Family Business Consulting Group (FBCG), has created an Executive Education program to meet the needs of family businesses across the Lowcountry.

This comprehensive planning certification takes a holistic and inclusive approach to Family Enterprise Planning (FEP). The program, which consists of three two-and-a-half day weekends in Charleston throughout the year, combines courses in family dynamics, family business strategy and family governance — three critical systems for family enterprise legacy success.

The first of its kind in Charleston, the FEP program offers a unique opportunity to network not only with experts in family business planning but also peers who understand the challenges of running a family enterprise.

Jean Meeks-Koch — founder and CEO of Charleston-based consulting company Positively People — serves as the FEP academic director. Meeks-Koch, whose family enterprise expertise spans decades, touts the program’s one-of-a-kind features.

“In the span of three long weekends, participants will meet with family business trailblazers, connect with peers, explore Charleston’s most prominent family businesses and understand the current landscape of family business,” she says. “Most importantly, they’ll walk away with a fresh outlook and a tailored plan to address the most pressing issues impacting their family enterprise.”

Faculty from the College of Charleston School of Business and FBCG will co-lead each of the six in-person courses, which cover topics such as communication and conflict management, change management, succession planning and impact leadership.

Special features of the program consist of virtual faculty-led peer group exercises between courses, networking sessions as well as planned excursions.

A single FEP registration is $16,900. Discounts are available for multi-family registrations or for individuals with children currently enrolled at the College.
