College of Charleston student selected for prestigious Public Service Scholarship
May 5, 2025College of Charleston Honors College student Jakob Highducheck is one of 20 students nationwide selected as a 2025 Key into Public Service Scholar by the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Chosen from over 800 applicants, he will receive a $5,000 scholarship and attend a public service conference in Washington, D.C.
A biology and environmental and sustainability studies double major from Inman, South Carolina, Highducheck is a Charleston Fellow and Bonner Leader. His work includes water quality research with Charleston Waterkeeper and international environmental study through the Fulbright U.S.–UK Summer Institutes.
He also directed First Gen, a documentary on first-generation college students, which helped inspire the College of Charleston’s First-Generation Hub. Highducheck plans to pursue graduate studies in environmental science, biology, or science communication.
