College of Charleston to co-host Black Alumni Collective National Leadership Symposium

February 10, 2023

The College of Charleston and The Citadel will host the Black Alumni Collective National Leadership Symposium March 9-12, 2023, on the two universities’ campuses. Over 100 higher education administrators and Black alumni volunteers from more than 30 universities across the country will network, share ideas and collaborate at this extraordinary gathering.

Topics will range from Black student recruitment and retention and Black alumni leadership development and succession planning to collaboration with university administration and Black alumni and social justice. Registrants can enjoy tours and participate in community service programs. The symposium will close on Sunday, March 12, with services at Mother Emanuel AME Church.

Registration is still open to individuals interested in participating. The headquarters hotel is The Francis Marion.

The Black Alumni Collective was created in Atlanta in the fall of 2018 after Black leaders from 10 schools agreed that a collective voice is essential in moving their universities, alumni and local communities forward. The collective adopted six pillars of impact: advocate for inclusion; encourage student recruitment; support philanthropy; broaden community service; promote leadership; and celebrate each of the member universities. Black alumni volunteers and higher education administrators collaborate at the collective’s conference each year, drawing new advocates to these important causes.
