Colonial Life Announces New Support for Education, Homeless Services

COLUMBIA, SC – October 28, 2008 — Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company has announced three significant contributions to Midlands area organizations beginning in 2009:

  • $100,000 over five years to Midlands Tech to create the Colonial Life One-to-One Scholarship Program. This program will provide financial aid to students seeking careers in business, health care, accounting, finance or information technology.
  • $100,000 over three years to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Midlands. This donation will help fund after-school programs and other efforts that focus on character education that lead to college scholarships.
  • $100,000 over five years to the Midlands Housing Authority to support the community’s comprehensive housing and services plan for the homeless.

In the past three years, Colonial Life has contributed $1.8 million to nonprofit partners in the Midlands. Hundreds of the company’s employees have lent their time and talents to nonprofit agencies, serving in a variety of roles from board members to event volunteers. In 2007, Colonial Life employees logged more than 11,000 hours in volunteer service.
