Colonial Life donates $6,000 in Challenge for Charity

Media members competed in annual quiz show on behalf of their favorite charities.

COLUMBIA, SC – The State newspaper bested seven other media teams in today’s 15th annual Colonial Life Challenge for Charity. The victory by Erin Shaw and Rebekah Hall earned a $3,000 donation to Oliver Gospel Mission.

The annual quiz show event pits teams of local media celebrities and charity representatives against each other in a battle of wits to earn donations to their favorite charities. Two teams tied for second and each won $1,500 for their charities. Michal Higdon and Tim Miller of WIS-TV won on behalf of The Therapy Place and Alan Cooper of MidlandsBiz and his partner, Mark Pierman, won on behalf of Growing Home Southeast.

Other media celebrities participating in the event included: Janet Parker and Brian McConchie of WACH-TV, playing for Harvest Hope Food Bank; Brindy McNair of Cola Daily and Marty Hall of 94.3 FM, supporting Pets Inc.; Alicia Barnes of WOLO-TV and her partner, Sara Bonner, playing for the Junior Women’s Club of Lake Murray; Christopher Thompson of WVOC-AM and his partner, Sue Maner, playing for Special Olympics S.C.; and Deon Guillory and Megan Rivers of WLTX-TV, supporting Richland County CASA.

The Challenge for Charity has generated nearly $82,000 in donations to Midlands community organizations over the past 15 years.
