The annual quiz show event pits teams of local media celebrities and charity representatives against each other in a battle of wits to earn donations to their favorite charities. The unprecedentedly strong competition ended in a three-way tie for second by WMHK-FM’s Michelle Renew and Joe “J.P.” Polek playing for Hannah House; WIS-TV’s Mary King and Len Kiese competing on behalf of Palmetto Place Children’s Shelter, and WLTX-TV’s Steven Dial and Mary Soto playing for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Each team won $1,000 for its charity.

Other media celebrities participating in the event included MidlandsBiz.com’s Alan Cooper, partnering with Amy Cue of Growing Home Southeast; The State Newspaper’s Bertram Rantin, partnering with Dolly Patton of the Saluda Shoals Foundation; WACH-TV’s Janet Parker and Lauren Olesky playing for Ronald McDonald House Charities; and WOLO-TV’s Alicia Barnes and Andy Burns completing for EdVenture children’s museum.

The Challenge for Charity has generated more than $68,000 in donations to Midlands community organizations over the past 13 years.
