Columbia’s smallest art sale returns

February 3, 2016

The third annual Postcard Art Sale benefitting Artists for Africa will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the Embassy Suites Hotel at 6:00pm.  Postcard art is original, postcard sized (4 x 6) works by well-known and emerging artists from across South Carolina and the United States. All art, regardless of artist prominence, is $65.00 apiece sold on a first come, first served basis.  Buyers may purchase as many pieces as they want in this “gold rush” style format.  It’s a unique opportunity for buyers to acquire original works for very little money. There is a separate $15 admission to the event.  Currently, almost 100 artists have committed pieces to the event.  The 2015 event featured well over 200 pieces of artwork.

Because of individual and corporate sponsorships, 100% of the proceeds from the event go to support the mission of the five year old Artists for Africa, Inc., a local non-profit organization founded by Columbia native and full-time Nairobi, Kenya resident, Cooper Rust. Artists for Africa, Inc. is dedicated to providing education and alternative arts education to vulnerable children in some of Africa’s most desperately deprived slums.

During the summer of 2015, Artists for Africa, along with the University of South Carolina and the USC Summer Dance Program, sponsored six children from Kenya for the month long summer dance program held in Columbia, SC.  “It was a life changing event for these children,” said Brie Russell, President of Artists for Africa.  “There were so many first time experiences for the kids and their talent was truly amazing.  It was a real cultural exchange, not only for the children, but for all the young people who met and shared the experience with them.”
