Columbia Art Center announces new march workshops and classes

The Columbia Art Center is offering several new art classes and workshops to help you release your creative spirit.

Seven new workshops and classes focusing on indigo silk scarf making, mosaic tiles, glazing, pine needle baskets, drawing and more will be offered during the month of March.

March Workshops

Indigo Silk Scarf Workshop (Instruction by Caroline Harper)

Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Columbia Art Center, 1227 Taylor Street, Ste. C, Columbia, SC 29201

Students will learn the techniques of Shibori and indigo, how to create your own silk scarf and how to set up your own indigo vat. Registration fee:$45; Registration deadline: Monday, February 19, 2018; Maximum class size: 12 participants (4 minimum).

Mosaic Tile Art (Instruction by Sharon Funderburk)

Saturdays, March 10 and 24, 2018 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Edisto Discovery Park, 1914 Wiley Street, Columbia SC  29205

This 2-day workshop focuses on making a 12”x12” mosaic piece. All materials will be provided. Registration fee: $90; Registration deadline: Friday, February 23, 2018; Maximum class size: 10 participants (4 minimum).

Sewing Basics (Instruction by Brenda Oliver)

Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 12-4 p.m.

Columbia Art Center, 1227 Taylor Street, Columbia, SC  29201

This is an informal class where students can ask questions about sewing. Students must bring their own machine, a pattern, supplies and proper tools. Registration fee: $20; Registration deadline: Thursday, March 8, 2018; Maximum class size: 12 participants.

Dipping, Pouring and More (Glazing) (Instruction by Tim Graham)

Saturdays, March 17 and April 7, 2018 from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

This workshop takes students through the fundamentals of glazing and explores decorating possibilities. Registration fee: $40. Registration deadline:  Friday, March 9, 2018; Maximum class size: 10 participants (4 minimum).

Explorations in Clay (Middle & High School)

Mondays from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Life Drawing

March 8-29, 2018

Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Instructor: Lucas Sams

This course will teach you basic line drawing or help enhance your line drawing skills. Registration fee: $80; Registration deadline: Thursday, March 1, 2018; Maximum class size: 15 participants (4 minimum)

Introductory Pine Needle Basketry: A Contemporary Approach

March 6-27, 2018

Tuesdays from 5:30-8 p.m.

Instructor: Clay Burnette

This class will explore the use of longleaf pine needles combined with the coiling technique to create nontraditional basketry shapes. Registration fee: $60; Registration deadline: Wednesday, February 20, 2018; Maximum class size: 10 participants (6 minimum)
