Columbia attorney named 2014 Distinguished Lawyer

COLUMBIA, SC – The S.C. Bar Employment and Labor Law Section Council announces that Franklin “Frank” G. Shuler Jr. has been named the Distinguished Lawyer of 2014. Mr. Shuler will be recognized at the Section’s mid-year meeting on Friday, May 16, at the S.C. Bar Conference Center in Columbia.
This award is presented to an attorney nominated and selected by his or her professional peers for commendable service to employment and labor law practice in South Carolina.
Mr. Shuler is a shareholder in the Columbia office of Turner Padget Graham and Laney, PA and serves as leader of the firm’s Labor and Employment Law Group. He earned his Juris Doctor from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1983 and is a certified mediator in South Carolina and federal courts.
Mr. Shuler has dedicated the past 27 years to exclusively practicing employment and labor law. According to Columbia attorney Edward W. Laney IV, “Unlike most students, [Mr. Shuler] entered law school with the express purpose of becoming a labor and employment attorney.” Upon graduating from law school, Mr. Shuler worked for an insurance defense firm in Alabama where he successfully tried his first jury case and “was fortunate enough to ‘second chair’ three federal court jury trials.”
“I am so pleased Frank is receiving the Distinguished Lawyer Award given by the Bar’s Employment and Labor Law Section,” said Laney. “Frank has numerous devoted clients for very good reasons. [He] is astute and always delivers sage advice tempered by compassion for all those involved. He is truly deserving of the award, and I thank the Bar for recognizing him.”
Mr. Shuler is an active member of the S.C. Bar Employment and Labor Law Section, and was appointed chair of the Employment and Labor Law Specialization Advisory Board for the S.C. Supreme Court Commission on CLE and Specialization in 2010. In addition, he is a member of the Professional Liability Attorneys Network Board of Governors and has written numerous employment law publications for the S.C. Chamber of Commerce, includingA Guide to Drafting an Employee Policies Manual (now in its eighth edition).
