A Historic Event for Two Nights Only

Graceful swans, a dashing prince and a moonlit lake become immersed in the world of breathtaking beauty with Columbia City Ballet’s adaptation of the quintessential classical ballet of Swan Lake. The evening features the classic choreography staged by Artistic Director William Starrett. The production will be accompanied by the full South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Morihiko Nakahara himself and opens Friday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m. with a second performance Saturday, Jan. 28 at 6:30 p.m. held at the Koger Center for the Arts followed immediately by a Black and White Ball at the Embassy Suites.

“Columbia City Ballet has a long history of being committed to the full- length classic ballets, and this is the epitome of classical ballet. Even if you’re not a balletomane, Swan Lake is something that everyone should experience, especially when it’s in your own backyard!” said Executive & Artistic Director William Starrett.” Columbia City Ballet has performed Swan Lake seven times in its 56 year history beginning in 1972, the first full length ballet the company ever staged, and in 1985 the production was staged jointly by the company’s founding Director Ann Brodie and William Starrett. This year marks the first time in over two decades the company will have performed alongside the full S.C. Philharmonic Orchestra.

World renowned guest artist, Joseph Phillips, deemed the “golden boy” from top world renowned publications, will be the featured premier danseur in the Friday evening performance partnering with company Soloist Annie Ruiz. Phillips has been awarded more gold medals than any other American dancer and is currently the only American Principal Dancer dancing in Russia and he is staring at the Marinsky Ballet of St. Petersburg, Russia. The Saturday night performance features Ballerina Regina Willoughby partnering with Principal Dancer Christopher Miro.

This evening of passion and romance continues with the most elegant social event of the season.
