Columbia College CC Players and Dr. Jade Huell, Assistant Professor of Communication Studies attend Petit Jean Performance Festival in Arkansas, October 14-15

CC Players, a student performance organization housed in the Columbia College Communication Studies program, will travel with Dr. Jade Huell, Assistant Professor of Communication Studies to participate and perform in the 2016 Petit Jean Performance Festival in Arkansas, October 14-15.

Columbia College Students participating in this year’s festival are Asha Jones, Ashley Bonnette, Bianca McNair, Caitlin Singletary, Harley Carrigan, Isaac Liggett, Jerrica Thomas, Katie Potter and Mary-Grace Holt.

The students will perform, by invitation of the festival organizers, a new version of HERS, an original CC Players production developed in spring 2016. HERS features personal narratives which are based on the prompt: As a woman, tell us your story! They will also be learning new material at the festival to develop into a showcase to be produced on the campus of Columbia College in the near future.

The host of 2016 Petit Jean Performance Festival is the University of North Texas. Dr. Sarah Amira de la Garza, of Arizona State University, will serve as festival leader. In addition to her position as Associate Professor in the Hugh Downs School of Communication at ASU, Dr. de la Garza is an affiliate faculty member of the School of Transborder Studies and the School of Social Transformation. She is a Southwest Borderlands Scholar and Graduate Faculty Member of the Theatre and Performance of the Americas at ASU.

Founded in 1981, the festival takes place in the rustic outdoor setting of Petit Jean State Park in Morrilton, Arkansas and is an annual gathering of scholars and students of Theatre and Performance and Communication Studies from around the country. During the festival students perform plays, present showcases, share individual performance work, circulate pedagogical strategies and evaluate student performances. They also have an opportunity to network with other undergraduates and graduates as well as be exposed to experts in the field.
