May 6, 2008

COLUMBIA, SC – May 6, 2008—Columbia Conference Center will award $10,000 in scholarships to twenty art students from Richland-Lexington School District Five.

The awards ceremony to announce the winners will be held at Columbia Conference Center, 169 Laurelhurst Avenue, on May 27, 2008, at 5:30 PM. The public is invited to view the artwork anytime between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM that day, and also join us at 5:30 PM for refreshments as we recognize these outstanding art students from Richland-Lexington School District Five.  “What a wonderful opportunity to showcase the artistic talents of School District Five students,” states Tami Richardson, District Five Fine Arts, Gifted, and Talented Coordinator.

“These scholarships are part of our corporate commitment to helping our community and reflects our partnership with Richland-Lexington School District Five,” says Mike DuBose, president of Columbia Conference Center and Research Associates. “We believe in reinvesting some of our profits back into the community to assist our future leaders. The scholarships are intended to help these high school art students offset some of their higher education costs.”

Over 120 students from Irmo, Dutch Fork, and Chapin High Schools will participate in this competition. Art students and the high school art directors from the three high schools were invited to submit their best artwork for review. The twenty winning pieces will be displayed in Columbia Conference Center for all who visit the center to view.

Columbia Conference Center was built in 2003 by Mike DuBose. Many school districts, government agencies, nonprofits, individuals, and for-profits use the facility for conferences, meetings, training, socials, and other events.
