Fireflies head home for penultimate homestand of the season 

COLUMBIA, SC – The Fireflies head back home to Segra Park in the heart of August for their penultimate homestand of the 2023 season where they’ll face the first place Charleston RiverDogs week one and week two they’ll take on first-half champion Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

The Fireflies have faced both the RiverDogs and the Pelicans quite a few times this year. Columbia is 11-7 vs the RiverDogs this season, including a series win at Segra Park where they took four of six games against Charleston. Columbia has also had a lot of success vs the Pelicans this year. They’re 8-4 in their first 12 games against Myrtle Beach.

The RiverDogs’ top prospect and 2022 first rounder, Xavier Isaac has had a ton of success against Carolina League pitching, hitting .259 with 12 homers and 47 RBI in his first 76 games. Prospects 11 and 12, according to MLB Pipeline have had some trouble. LHP Ian Seymour has an 8.10 ERA in his first five games and SS Carlos Colmenarez is hitting just .196 in his first Carolina League Season.

The Pelicans’ top prospect, LHP Jackson Ferris made his Carolina League debut against the Fireflies, and has pitched well, holding a 3.69 ERA in his first 12 games. Cristian Hernandez and Jefferson Rojas have held down the middle infield for Myrtle Beach this season too. Hernandez has a .300 on-base percentage with 13 extra-base hits in his first 81 games and Rojas is crushing the ball early, slashing .267/.349/.417 just eight months after signing with the Cubs as a 17-year-old.

Then Wednesday is the day for you, when courtesy of Trash the Poop, you can bring your leashed and rabies vaccinated dog with you to the ballpark with the purchase of a berm ticket. It’s also a White Claw Wednesday, where fans can enjoy $5 16 oz cans of White Claw at Segra Park.

WIS Night: Join us at Segra Park as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of WIS. Current and former members of the WIS staff will be out at the ballpark Thursday, August 10 as we celebrate the station’s platinum anniversary.

Area 51 Night: Look out for UFO sightings August 10 as the ballpark will have signs of extra-terrestrial life visiting us!!

First Responders Night: The first 1,000 fans in attendance August 11 will receive a t-shirt courtesy of South University on First Responders night where we’ll honor the brave police officers, fire fighters and EMT service members who give so much to help our community.

Nickelodeon’s PAW Patrol Night: No job is too big for these pups! August 12 Skye and Rubble come to Segra Park to help spread family fun on PAW Patrol Night presented by the South Carolina Department of Social Services! Stick around afterwards for a fantastic post-game fireworks show.

Girl Scout Night: Join us on a Sunday Funday where we’ll have a pre-game autograph session and post-game kids run the bases courtesy of Bang Back Pinball Lounge. It’s also a night where we’ll be joined by girl scouts troops of the Midlands.

Country Night: It’s a normal Budweiser Thirsty Thursday, August 17, with $1 fountain sodas, $2 domestic drafts and $3 craft drafts and cocktails, but it has a bit of a blue collar twang for our Country Night presented by The Blood Connection.

Ben Kudrna Bobblehead Night: The first 1,000 fans through the gates August 18 will receive a Ben Kudrna throwing fire bobblehead courtesy of SAFE Federal Credit Union. These will go quickly after gates open at 6 pm, so you’ll want to get to the ballpark early!

Faith & Family Night: Join us for our annual Faith & Family Night, which will include our first ever pre-game concert! Josh Wilson will perform prior to the game, courtesy of HIS Radio 92.1. During the game, the Zooperstars! will perform as well.

Women in Sports Night: Sunday, we’re celebrating all the special, hard-working women who help make sports great for everyone! Join us for a special night presented by the Watermelon Association.
