Columbia High teacher named NIET Teacher Leader Fellow

June 3, 2026

Columbia High School math teacher Joshua Knight has been named a 2027 Teacher Leader Fellow by the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET).

The year-long fellowship is meant to deepen educators’ knowledge of instructional best practices to more effectively support the work taking place within and beyond their schools and districts.

Knight was the only educator from South Carolina and one of 13 educators nationwide selected for the 2027 cohort of the fellowship.

“It’s a real honor. We’ve done a lot of great things at Columbia High School, so I’m happy that we’re being recognized for what we’ve got going on,” said Knight.

As part of the fellowship, Knight will receive a $7,500 stipend, participate in professional development activities and contribute to the development of content for NIET.
