Columbia Metropolitan Airport announces Daniel Ruggiero as Deputy Chief of Public Safety

December 12, 2016

Columbia Metropolitan Airport announced that Daniel Ruggiero has stepped into the role of Deputy Chief for the airport’s Public Safety Department.

Daniel has been a member of the airport’s team since 2006 when he joined the Airport Police Department (APD). Daniel most recently served as the Captain of Training and Compliance for the department.

In 2012, the airport began transitioning to a single Airport Public Safety Department. As a part of the transition, Daniel was the first Police Officer to complete training and acquire his firefighter certification at the South Carolina Fire Academy.

Prior to his tenure at the airport, Daniel was a Sergeant with the Benedict College Police Department. Daniel honorably served 6 years in the United States Navy as a Seabee with the United States Naval Construction Forces.

Daniel is honored to be entrusted by management to help lead this department in presenting a positive image, enhancing customer service and maintain a safe environment for our tenants and traveling public.

“In my opinion we have one of the best public safety departments in the country and I look forward in helping guide us into the future. My ambition is to have other police and fire departments want to mimic what we have built here. I am thankful for the leaders I have worked under and aim to build upon the foundation they have created.

Daniel was born in Michigan, but grew up all around the world due to his father being in the United States Air Force. Daniel has one daughter, who is currently an Emergency Medical Technician with Richland County EMS.

When not working, Daniel enjoys golfing, watching soccer, Michigan athletics, and spending time with family.
