Columbia Museum of Art announces 11th season of popular chamber music series with a new name, CMA Chamber Music on Main

COLUMBIA, SC – September 27, 2012 – The popular and critically acclaimed chamber music series created by Artistic Director Charles Wadsworth returns to the Columbia Museum of Art for its 11th season with a new name. The CMA highlights its commitment to stellar cultural programming and the series’ current artistic leadership by renaming the series, CMA Chamber Music on Main featuring Artistic Director Edward Arron.

I love the series’ new name and am more excited than ever to be returning to the Columbia Museum of Art for another season of great chamber music, Arron said.
 
The Museum has been recognized as a catalyst for the many positive changes in downtown Columbia because of its exceptional and dynamic programming, including concerts like these that bring in hundreds of people to the city center in the evening.
 
We felt now was an opportune time to brand our chamber series to help raise the visibility of Main Street, CMA Executive Director, Karen Brosius, said.
 
The opening concert of the 11th season, presented by U.S. Trust, is Tuesday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the Dubose-Poston Reception Hall. This chamber music concert features flutist Tara Helen O’Connor, pianist Jeewon Park, violinist Steven Copes and cellist Edward Arron performing works by Bach, Schnittke, Martinu, Bunch and Ravel.
 
Season tickets are $175 or $130 for CMA members. Single concert tickets are available for $40 or $30 for members and $5 for students. All seats are on a first-come, first-served basis.
 
Upcoming concerts in the 2012-2013 season are Wednesday, December 5 at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 14 at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21 at 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, April 30 at 7:00 p.m. Program information can be found at columbiamuseum.org.
 
Edward Arron
The 2012-2013 season marks Arron’s tenth season as the artistic coordinator of the Metropolitan Museum Artists in Concert, a chamber ensemble created in 2003 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s prestigious Concerts and Lectures series. He is also the artistic director of the Caramoor Virtuosi and of the Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival in Summit County, Colorado. Arron performed numerous times at Carnegie’s Weill and Zankel Halls, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully and Avery Fisher Halls, New York’s Town Hall, and the 92nd Street Y, and is a frequent performer at Bargemusic. Past summer festival appearances include Ravinia, Salzburg, Mostly Mozart, BRAVO! Colorado, Tanglewood, Bridgehampton, Spoleto USA, Santa Fe, Seattle Chamber Music, the Chamber Music Conference of the East, and Isaac Stern’s Jerusalem Chamber Music Encounters. Arron participated in the Silk Road Project and has toured and recorded as a member of MOSAIC, an ensemble dedicated to contemporary music.
