Columbia Parks & Recreation Department will close the north end of Riverfront Park until May 21 for construction of trail

May 5, 2025

The City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department will close portions of Riverfront Park effective immediately for public safety during heavy construction. Areas closed include the lower trail, a one mile sidewalk in the floodplain forest, and a portion of the levee trail.

The closure will affect the parking lot and entrance for Riverfront Park North at 4122 River Drive. During this time, trail sections will be closed during the day, with the levee trail and parking lot reopening by 5:30 in the evening. The lower trail will remain out of service until May 21.

The park will be open on the weekends of May 3 and 4; May 10 and 11 and May 17 and 18. The Columbia Parks and Recreation Department encourages everyone to visit the south end of Riverfront Park at 312 Laurel Street as an alternative, or explore the nearby Saluda Riverwalk at 650 Candi Lane.

During this construction project, contractors will be removing damaged sidewalk from the lower trail in the floodplain forest, and pouring new sidewalk.
