Columbia Police Department to host Stuff-A-Cruiser event to Collect wishlist items for Ronald McDonald House Charities

June 22, 2023

Ronald McDonald House Charities Columbia, SC is a non-profit organization that provides care for the families of critically ill and injured children receiving care at local Columbia hospitals.  The organization consists of two cornerstone programs:  The Ronald McDonald House, located next door to Prisma Health Richland Hospital, and The Ronald McDonald Family Room, located in the lobby of Prisma Health Richland’s Children’s Hospital.

Through the Family Room Programs, such as nourishment rooms, hospitality carts, and the Pack-A-Smile lunch program, 10,000 individuals/families were served per month, making all of the comforts of the Ronald McDonald House accessible at Prisma Health Baptist, Richland, and Children’s Hospitals along with Lexington Medical Center.

Running a program such as Pack-A-Smile is extremely expensive, sometimes peaking at $7,000/month and supplying over 3,500 bags per month. Special thanks to people and organizations within our community, such as Captain Yates and the Columbia Police Department, who see the value in the programs and services and pledge their collaborative efforts in helping RMHC to further the mission of helping these critically ill or injured children’s families.

On Thursday, June 22nd, from 8 am until 4 pm, RMHC invites and encourages the Columbia community to come out to Sam’s Club or Walmart, both on Forest Drive to pick up a flyer of wishlist items used for the Pack-A-Smile Program from a designated volunteer, shop for one or several items and fill the police cruiser in the parking lot.
