Columbia retailer, Brittons, raises $13,500 for United Way flood recovery efforts

January 26, 2016

This week United Way of the Midlands received a $13,500 donation for its flood recovery efforts from Brittons, a Columbia retailer for more than 60 years.

Following the October 2015 flooding, Brittons launched the #BrittonsUnited campaign to raise funds through vendor donations and custom product sales including limited edition Southern Tide and Vineyard Vines T-shirts and Chavez for Charity bracelets.

“Brittons was fortunate to be physically unaffected by the flooding, but seeing our friends and neighbors so hurt by this catastrophe did not leave us unscathed,” said Perry Lancaster, Brittons manager. “As a part of the community for 66 years, the Brittons family feels the need to aid the area we are so involved in.”

The retailer also hosted several community events benefiting United Way during the #BrittonsUnited Campaign.

“United Way is honored to receive this donation for our flood recovery efforts,” said Mac Bennett, President and CEO of United Way.  “We are grateful for local business like Brittons that are committed to helping those in need.”

Additional thanks to the following vendors for their contributions to the #BrittonsUnited Campaign: 34 Heritage, Ballin, Berle, Bob Goodman and Co., Chavez for Charity,  Flynt, Fashion Accessories Show, Hardwick, Jack Victor, Jim’s Formal Wear, Peace of Cloth,  Randy Hanauer, Sewell, Southern Tide, Southern Point, and Vineyard Vines.
