September 8, 2020

Partnering with the City of Columbia Complete Count Committee, Secure the Ballot and Food Share SC, the 2020 Census Food Voucher Drive Thru will provide an opportunity for individuals to complete their census electronically, register to vote and receive a food voucher for fresh produce.

The Columbia Urban League Young Professionals(CULYPSC) announced the 2020 Census Food Voucher Drive-Thru on Saturday, September 12, 2020, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the Dutch Square parking lot, in front of Office Depot located at 421 Bush River Rd #2003, Columbia, SC 29210. Partnering with the City of Columbia’s Complete Count Committee, Secure the Ballot, and FoodShare SC, CULYPSC will be providing residents of Columbia with healthy and fresh produce at no cost, electronic 2020Census count completion, and voter registration.

“We are thrilled to be able to serve our community in any capacity. We understand the issues our community faces, especially during the pandemic, and that these issues have created a whirlwind of emotions. People are having a hard time keeping food on the table, and a roof over their heads. One of the last things they are thinking about is completing their Census or registering to vote. We have a social responsibility to help reduce barriers where we can and serve others”, said Merrell Johnson, Co-Chair of the Cultural and Social Committee.

In the wake of a catastrophic public health and economic crisis, the 2020 Census Food Voucher Drive-Thru is just one of many mutual aid efforts to help Midlands residents during these unprecedented times.

Residents who complete their census will also have an opportunity to register to vote in time for the November election. The first 100 people who complete their 2020 Census will be provided a voucher from Food Share SC for a food box that contains fresh fruits and vegetables.
