Columbia Woman Wins Toastmasters International Regional Speech Contest

Chakisse Newton to Represent SC in the Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking

COLUMBIA, SC – July 7, 2009 – On Saturday June 27, 2009 Chakisse Newton won the first place prize in the Toastmasters International Region VIII Speech Contest in Greensboro, NC and captivated an audience of more than 300 people with her speech, Butterfly Moments.  Newton represented Toastmasters District 58 (comprised of the state of South Carolina) and was one of eight contestants from across the Southeast and the Bahamas. Her achievement earns her a spot to compete in the Toastmasters International World Championship of Public Speaking on August 12, 2009 in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

Winning the Regional Speech Contest makes Newton one of only ten speakers in the world who will compete in the World Championship of Public Speaking. Newton, a member of Toastmasters since 2003, also competed in the World Championship of Public Speaking in 2005. I’m extremely proud of the opportunity to represent South Carolina and Toastmasters Region VIII in the World Championship. Communication is one of the most important skills for personal and professional success and I’m really pleased to be able to share an inspirational message with a world-wide audience, especially in these challenging times, said Newton.

Newton is a business development consultant and executive speech coach based in Columbia, SC. She is president of Cardinal Consulting, LLC a firm which specializes in helping organizations and individuals improve performance. Newton is a member of the Saturday AM Toastmasters Club which meets weekly at the Cooper Branch of the Richland County Public Library.
