Come Home to Laurens: City of Laurens Christmas Parade Set for December 7

The City of Laurens is gearing up for its annual Christmas Parade, scheduled for Saturday, December 7, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The festive event, themed “Come Home to Laurens,” promises to bring holiday cheer to the community with a dazzling display of lights, music, and creative floats.

Parade Details and Guidelines

This year’s parade will feature a variety of floats, marching bands, performing groups, and more, all decked out in holiday-themed attire and lighting. Participants are reminded of the following key rules to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone:

• No Live Santa Claus: To avoid confusion, no entry may feature a live or life-size Santa Claus.
• Dress Code: All participants must be in uniform, holiday-themed dress, or color-coordinated attire.
• Lighting Requirements: Each float and vehicle must include holiday lights. Headlights and dome lights are not sufficient.
• Safety First: Throwing items, including candy, from moving entries is strictly prohibited. Walkers may distribute items to attendees along the route, but tossing is not allowed for safety reasons.
• Supervision: Children participating must be accompanied by an adult. Walkers under age six are not permitted due to the length of the parade route.
• Holiday Music: All music must be holiday-themed and appropriate for a family-friendly event.

Parade Line-Up and Schedule

The line-up for parade entries will be assigned one week prior to the event, with entry numbers provided to the designated contact person for each group. Important timings include:

• 3:00 PM: Vehicles pulling floats must be at their assigned number.
• 3:30 PM: Walking units and riders should be in place.
• 4:00 PM: The parade will kick off promptly.

Entry Fees and Donations

In lieu of a traditional entry fee, the City of Laurens is requesting participants make an in-kind donation valued at a minimum of $50. Suggested items include canned goods, socks, diapers, and other essentials. Donations will be collected and directed to a local nonprofit chosen by the City. All donation items must be dropped off at Laurens City Hall (126 E. Public Square) no later than two days before the parade.
