The Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (The COMET) received two awards at the Live United Awards hosted by United Way of the Midlands at Central Energy recently.

The COMET’s United Way Campaign efforts were led by Angela Jacobs, who in her first year serving as campaign director, was also nominated for Campaign Director of the Year. Under Jacobs’ leadership, The COMET exceeded its $3500 goal by $1,000 through special events and employee payroll deductions. Additionally, The COMET received Best in Class Award (awarded in the private and public sector by size and are based on three criteria: percent participation, employee per capita gift and increase in total giving), and The Gold Award (Gold Awards are given to companies with an employee per capita gift of $150 – $399).

“The United Way does an impeccable job of serving the Midlands and we are honored to partner with them,” said Maurice Pearl, Executive Director/CEO of The COMET, “Much credit goes to Ms. Jacobs for her dedication and hard work leading our team in this effort. It just underscores The COMET ‘s commitment to being good community stewards. We are proud to accept these honors.”

Fundraising efforts were accomplished by special events and direct contributions.
