Community Health Awareness Day (CHAD) is back

April 11, 2023

After a few years’ departure due to COVID-19, the Community Health Awareness Day (CHAD) returns to Spartanburg on Saturday, April 22nd. This FREE community-wide event promises fun, food, entertainment, and activities for the whole family, as well as health screenings on location!

For many in our community, personal health takes a back seat to the hustle of every day life. With carpools, work, school, activities, dinner, church, and more, many families simply do not have the time to take care of themselves. CHAD provides an opportunity for community members to find a host of services and resources all in one place.

CHAD is both a health resource fair and fun Saturday activity with music, food, and activities for all ages at the Dr. T.K. Gregg Community Center. The day will begin with a 5K health awareness walk at 8:00 AM (warm-up at 7:45). Beginning at 9:00 AM, a variety of free health screenings will be available, including blood pressure, lipid, HIV, Hep C, oral health screenings (adults & children), and breast cancer screenings.

A free lunch will be served 12:00-1:00 PM. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to register at CHAD2023.eventbrite.com to ensure enough food and supplies are available.

Community partners, including LiveHealthy Spartanburg, the Divine 9, the City of Spartanburg, ReGenesis Health Care, and United Way of the Piedmont have come together to organize this community event for all. JaLisa Jordan, Program Manager at Live Healthy Spartanburg notes that “It’s important to remember that no one can give what they don’t have. It’s much easier to care for others when we first care for ourselves – think “oxygen masks on an airplane” – you can’t pour from an empty cup. We’re here to help fill that cup!”

Dr. Glenda Sims, a founding member of the CHAD event, says, “Chad brings health resources to the community in a creative and fun way. Forging partnerships between groups with a common goal, the event breaks down barriers to health care for diverse groups, to make Spartanburg a healthier community.”
