Community invited on special tour of Giti Tire’s Richburg plant

Chester County students experienced drifting
Giti Tire, one of the world’s largest tire manufacturers, welcomed the community to its plant in Richburg, South Carolina on Monday. High school students from the Chester County School District got the chance to tour the plant, meet Formula Drift drivers and experience drifting.
It was a unique opportunity for students to see the state-of-the-art facility and learn more about the manufacturing process firsthand. They also participated in a drift ride along with professional drivers. Drifting is a competitive motorsport in which drivers steer corners at high speed creating a trail of smoke from the tires. Giti Tire is a premiere manufacturer of tires designed specifically for drift competition, including the Champiro SX2 RS made in Richburg.
“We were thrilled to welcome students and community guests to our Richburg plant for the full drift experience and to showcase our highly skilled workforce,” said Julianto Djajadi, executive vice president for business operations for Giti Tire USA. “Our South Carolina plant is a special place with special people and many stories to tell. We hope this visit inspired the next generation of engineers and manufacturers in the local community.”
Production began at the facility in 2017 and encompasses a 1.7 million-sq.-ft. plant and distribution center. Chester County is home to the company’s first North American manufacturing facility. Since planting roots in South Carolina, the company has been committed to improving the local community. It partnered with the Chester County School District to create Giti Math & Science clubs in schools across the area to help students develop valuable STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) skills. The clubs meet several times throughout the year, culminating with an annual interscholastic contest.
