Community leaders launch Vote Yes GVL campaign backing Greenville County penny sales tax referendums

A newly formed coalition of civic and business leaders has launched “Vote Yes GVL,” an advocacy campaign rallying public support for upcoming penny sales tax referendums on the ballot across Greenville County this November.

If approved by voters, the countywide transportation penny sales tax is projected to generate $990 million over an eight-year lifespan. The revenue would be dedicated to infrastructure upgrades, roadway resurfacing, green space preservation, and regional mobility expansions.

Key Funding Priorities

• Road Repairs & Maintenance: Dedicated capital to repave, repair, and maintain more than 2,400 miles of locally owned and county-maintained roads.

• Transit Expansion: Funding earmarked to double existing local public transit services, improving route frequencies and county connections.

• Greenbelt Protections: Allocations designed to safeguard natural resources, protect waterways, and expand regional greenway corridors.

• Municipal Measures: Alongside the countywide measure, ballots will feature local option questions for the cities of Greenville, Simpsonville, Mauldin, and Travelers Rest to fund specific municipal infrastructure, roadway projects, and local planning needs.

Operating under the slogan “Fix Our Roads. Protect Our Land & Water,” the coalition aims to inform voters ahead of Election Day on Tuesday, November 3, as municipalities across the county push for long-term solutions to keep pace with rapid regional growth.
