Community Rallies Behind Post 25, Raising More than $6,500 to Support Post 25 Members Jim Peterson and Jim Massey
April 20, 2026American Legion Post 25 hosted a fundraiser on Saturday that drew riders from across the state, neighbors, and local businesses together for a cause close to home. By the end of the day, the community had raised $6,632, money that will go directly toward the cost of home modifications for Jim Peterson and Jim Massey, the two Post 25 American Legion Riders critically injured in a March motorcycle accident on Highway 11.
The event featured BBQ plates, music, a silent auction, and a 50/50 drawing. American Legion Riders chapters from across South Carolina made the trip to Laurens to stand with Post 25, and the local community turned out in force as well. One of the highlights of the afternoon came when Jim Peterson arrived and was greeted with lots of smiles and hugs.
Post 25 Commander Kevin Farnsworth said the day meant more than anyone could have anticipated.
“We are very humbled by the support of our brothers,” Farnsworth said. “We want to thank all the American Legion Riders chapters in the state for showing up, and all the wonderful folks in the community who came out.”
Funds Go Directly to Home Modifications
The money raised will help Post 25 cover the costs of making both men’s homes accessible as they continue their recoveries.
The Post has been coordinating and funding this work as part of their commitment to standing beside their members through recovery and the community’s response on April 18 is helping to make that possible.
