Concrete Progress: Temporary delays expected on Clemson Road

July 1, 2020

Crews contracted by Richland County Transportation recently completed milling work to remove pavement on a stretch of Clemson Road. Paving is now underway on newly created outer lanes from Chimneyridge Drive to Quality Court.

Drivers who use Clemson Road in Northeast Richland should expect delays over the next two weeks because of road construction.

Crews contracted by Richland County are paving newly created outer lanes on Clemson Road from Chimneyridge Drive to Quality Court. County Transportation officials anticipate temporary traffic delays from lane closures related to the work, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Drivers should seek alternate routes to avoid delays, if possible.

The roadwork is part of a project that will widen Clemson Road from two to five lanes, from Old Clemson Road to Sparkleberry Crossing. Crews will also build shared-used paths for cyclists and pedestrians between Old Clemson Road and Chimneyridge Drive.

Transportation officials estimate construction is about 75 percent complete on the project, which began in early 2019 and is expected to end in early 2021.
