Conestee Nature Preserve to Host “Pollinators in Action: Flutter and Buzz Into Community Science” Program
July 6, 2026Local residents, families, and nature enthusiasts are invited to explore the critical role of insects in the local ecosystem at an upcoming educational workshop. Conestee Nature Preserve has announced its “Pollinators in Action: Flutter and Buzz Into Community Science” program, scheduled for Saturday, July 18th.
The interactive event will take place from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the preserve’s Shortleaf Shelter, located near the Henderson Meadow entrance at 601 Fork Shoals Road.
Stepping Into Community Science
The workshop is designed to introduce participants of all ages to the diverse world of local pollinators, including native bees and butterflies. Attendees will learn how to identify common flower-visiting insects and understand how environmental factors, such as stormwater pollution, impact their survival.
Beyond identification, a major focus of the program is empowering ordinary citizens to become hands-on researchers. Leaders will demonstrate how backyard gardeners can contribute real data to ongoing regional and national conservation efforts, specifically through established initiatives like the Great Sunflower Project and the Great Southeast Pollinator Census.
Participants will also learn about the local Seed Library, which offers free native wildflowers to help homeowners support pollinator habitats directly from their own properties.
