Congressman Clyburn Announces 2014 Coastal Zone Management Award Grant

June 4, 2014

COLUMBIA, SC – House Assistant Democratic Leader and South Carolina Congressman James E. Clyburn announced today that the South Carolina Coastal Management Program will receive a $2,367,000 grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

These funds will help support the jobs and provide continued assistance to the South Carolina Coastal Management Program to address important coastal issues in the state including coastal hazards and shoreline management.

“Receiving a grant of this magnitude to help preserve South Carolina’s natural resources is extremely beneficial,” Congressman Clyburn said.  “An investment of this size to the Coastal Program will ensure that our beautiful coastline is developed and studied in efforts to allow our citizens and visitors the enjoyment of their splendor for years to come.”

The grant also is supporting new initiatives such as the development of an enhanced State of the Beaches Report that will analyze the physical beach environment of developed coastlines, available public access and the socio-economic impact of the beach to local economies.
