Congressman Clyburn Congratulates Judge Bruce Howe Hendricks on Her Confirmation

June 9, 2014

COLUMBIA, SC – Bruce Howe Hendricks was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate today for a seat on the Federal District Court for the District of South Carolina.  “Brucie” Hendricks has been serving as a federal magistrate judge since 2002.  She is a native of Charleston, a graduate of the College of Charleston and the University of South Carolina School of Law.  She has been a federal prosecutor in Charleston, served as a magistrate in both Greenville and Charleston, and developed a pilot drug court in the federal system to address the costly recidivism of drug offenders.

“I am pleased that the Senate has confirmed Judge Hendricks to the District Court.  I have had a professional and personal relationship with the Howe family since the 1960’s when I lived in Charleston,” Congressman Clyburn continued.  “I have gotten to know Brucie professionally during her service as a federal magistrate.  As I said when she was nominated, her temperament and personal attributes have served her well in the legal profession and will be tremendous assets as a federal district court judge, and I was pleased to recommend her to the President.”
