Congressman Tim Scott will deliver commencement at Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, SC – April 30, 2012 – Charleston Southern University Class of 2012 will graduate at commencement this Saturday at 10 a.m. at North Charleston Coliseum.

U.S. Congressman Tim Scott will be the guest speaker and will be awarded an honorary doctorate of public service. Scott, who is serving his first term as the representative for South Carolina’s 1st District, graduated from Charleston Southern in 1988 with a degree in political science.
 
Previously, he served on the South Carolina House of Representatives and Charleston County Council. He has been a member of CSU’s Board of Visitors and has been named a CSU Alumnus of the Year.
 
S. Dolores Jones, assistant professor of communication, will be named professor emerita of communication during the ceremony. She has been teaching communication at Charleston Southern since 1967.
 
Dr. Michael L. Bryant, assistant professor of religion, will receive the Excellence in Teaching Award. Bryant has been a member of the CSU faculty since 2008 and is a 1995 CSU graduate with a degree in history. The Excellence in Teaching Award is given annually to one professor in recognition of dedication to teaching and learning.
