Constellation Concert Series: Music in the observatory returns to the State Museum this winter

January 15, 2025

Experience live music under the stars in the State Museum’s Constellation Concerts event series

This winter, the South Carolina State Museum invites guests to experience an evening of live music in the Boeing Observatory for our Constellation Concert on Thursday, January 23 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. This exciting event will feature South Carolina artist Danielle Howle, who is a natural storyteller and is known for her ability to perform multiple genres of music, including country-swamp-blues, jazz, southern rock and Americana.

In addition to the musical performance, attendees will have the opportunity to view the night sky through the observatory’s historic 1926 Alvan Clark Telescope, weather permitting. Guests can also enjoy a panoramic view of Columbia from the observatory terrace.

Danielle Howle has released well over a dozen studio albums in a four-decade career that has traversed genres, styles, and cultures. She’s opened for legends like Bob Dylan and Bonnie Raitt. She was also a close friend of the late singer/songwriter Elliott Smith.

The Constellation Concert will return to the Observatory on Thursday, February 20 with music from Death Ray Robin. The Alternative R&B act features Black-Korean vocalist Desirée Richardson and a rotating cast of instrumentalists from Columbia, SC. Known for her mellifluous soprano and straightforward yet poetic pop sensibilities, Richardson vacillates between genres, writing about themes of self-preservation, identity, revenge, forgiveness, and hope.

Tickets for the Constellation Concert Series featuring Danielle Howle are $35 for the general public and $28 for museum members. Tickets for the Constellation Concert featuring Death Ray Robin are priced at $20 for the general public and $16 for museum members. Wine and beer will be available for purchase, and complimentary light snacks will also be provided. Tickets are on sale at scmuseum.org.
