$100 gift cards for first-time shots, food giveaway will be part of event

County Councilwoman Chakisse Newton and S.C. House Rep. Jermaine Johnson Sr. are joining Prisma Health for a COVID-19 vaccination drive in Lower Richland.

The County will provide residents a $100 gift card for getting their first dose of the vaccine. The event also will feature a food giveaway by a local organization to help make Thanksgiving brighter for residents facing food insecurity during the pandemic.

The event will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Lower Richland Sheriff’s Substation, 2615 Lower Richland Blvd., Hopkins.

Prisma Health will provide the Pfizer vaccine to adults and children ages 5 and older who need their first or second dose. Those eligible for a booster shot or third dose can also receive one, per S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control guidelines.

Local nonprofit Carolina for All will provide grocery bags containing produce, meat, canned goods and other food items to those in need ahead of the holiday. The food bags are available first-come, first-served and are provided with assistance from Beulah Baptist Church in Hopkins.

As part of the County’s incentive program to fight the pandemic, new vaccine recipients who are Richland County residents will receive a $100 gift card while supplies last.

No appointment is needed to receive the vaccine, which is free and does not require insurance.
