Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine selected to participate in Knight Foundation 2016 Copenhagen study tour

September 19, 2016

Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine was extended a special invitation to participate in a five day, annual study tour of Copenhagen, the Danish capital, a city that consistently ranks in the top five of the most livable cities in the world.

“I am beyond excited to be a part of this study tour to learn new innovative ways to help Columbia become more bicycle and pedestrian accessible, as well as to understand ways to increase our livability. The knowledge gained on this trip can only enhance the progress we have made with Walk Bike Columbia and our Greenway projects,” said Councilwoman Devine.

Devine, along with 26 civic leaders and innovators, will experience how Copenhagen designs and programs its parks and other public spaces to attract residents and will explore how well the city accommodates both pedestrians and bicyclists in late September.

The trip will be held in partnership by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and 880 Cities. Participants will enjoy visits and tours of the city’s parks, public spaces, pedestrian and bike infrastructure; a master class in making cities for people with Gehl Architects; and discussions with the city’s leaders and city agencies. Many past participants have reported that the experience inspired specific changes in their home cities.
