County offering $100 gift cards as vaccination incentive

October 18, 2021

Pair of events Oct. 30 will focus on community resources

In an effort to make COVID-19 shots easier to access for Richland County residents, an upcoming vaccination drive will be held in conjunction with a community expo event.

The vaccine drive will be from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at The Meeting Place Church of Greater Columbia, 201 Columbia Mall Blvd., Columbia. As part of the County’s incentive program, the first 250 new vaccine recipients who are Richland County residents will receive a $100 gift card.

“Through this incentive program, County Council hopes to encourage residents to get the vaccine in order to raise the vaccination rate in Richland County,” said Councilwoman Yvonne McBride, District 3. “Residents can stop in at their convenience and do their part to improve the health of our community.”

Everyone 12 and older can get the vaccine, which is free and does not require insurance. The Medical University of South Carolina will administer the Pfizer vaccine.

The drop-in event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Columbia Place Mall parking lot at 7201 Two Notch Road, Columbia.

The County’s Neighborhood Improvement Program is organizing the expo, which will feature enrichment resources, teachings and demonstrations from local businesses, nonprofits, for-profits and other organizations, including:

  • STEM demonstrations with coding
  • Information on upcoming grants for small businesses
  • Resources for organizing a community cleanup

Food from local restaurants will be available, and kids dressed in costume for Halloween will receive candy. Sign up to attend the event at https://richland-exhibition.eventbrite.com. Face coverings are required, and physical distancing will be enforced.
