Countybank celebrates 90 years in South Carolina

June 5, 2023

Countybank is celebrating its 90th anniversary in business this year. Founded in 1933, the bank was created during the Great Depression, at a time of community hardship, when local business leaders identified the need for a dependable bank that would help people and businesses in the local community prosper. Since then, Countybank has seen significant growth and now serves residents and businesses in multiple locations across South Carolina’s Upstate.

After years of offering personal and business banking solutions, the bank recognized a need to provide its customers with a suite of financial services from one dependable trusted community source. Countybank expanded trust, investments, and mortgage services in the 1990s, and Countybanc Insurance was established in 1998. Today, Countybank offers a full family of financial services with the goal of supporting the entire financial needs of local families and businesses.

“It’s an honor to serve our customers, and we’re thankful for every day we get to support the hard-working people of South Carolina,” said R. Thornwell Dunlap III, President and CEO of Countybank. “We’ve seen the Upstate grow over the last nine decades, and we look forward to many more years of serving you, our customers, clients, and communities.”

Countybank is proud to be a part of the community banking industry, which provides 53% of all small business loans in addition to helping people meet their personal banking objectives. Countybank has also provided funding for those purchasing a home, having closed more than $3.2 billion in mortgage loans since 2010.

Countybank also understands the importance of giving back. The Countybank Foundation was established to provide funding to nonprofit and philanthropic organizations. Since then, in addition to Countybank associates logging countless volunteer hours, the Countybank Foundation has donated more than $3.5 million to local charities.
